Dave sees world #008

IMG_1155

Bromonculus, our very own Dave White, is all bark (ahem) and no bite this week, down with the flu, so I thought I’d better post one of his awesome photos.  Cheer him up with an email or blog comment.  Or better yet, buy one of his paintings.

Prints of this, and all makebright photos, for sale.  Just email me.

And, yes, I realize the photo overfloweth the layout.  Glorious, eh?

More macro-on-the-cheap

illuminated marbles (61)

So, more shots from by BlackBerry 9790 + a cheap plastic lens busted out from a disposable camera.  Lots of trial and error (mostly error).  Recalling how well the green die turned out last time, luminescent and all, I poked around Dave’s museum and found a really awesome set of ancient marbles and a giant hunk of amethyst-encrusted rock (respect to the Imaginarium of Dr. Bromonculus).  We set the marbles up on the rock and I was trying to light them from the sides with my freakishly-bright home-brew LED rig, but then Dave pulled out this LED penlight from the toolbox and put it behind the marble.  A ha!  Then I suggested making a snoot out of electrician’s tape to get a narrower beam, and then we were cookin’.

BOX Encore elevates

Encore - BOX11 078
chemicals, oil paint, blowtorch, magic, on copper – Cathy Farwell

BOX11 Encore, showing the work of BOX artists, opened tonight at WalterFedy’s art space.  This is a really strong show, curated by Suzanne Luke, and appears in one of my favourite spots to check out art.  Public shows are May 2, 9, and 16 from 5-7pm with artists on hand.  Definitely check it out, and if you like it: buy it!  Like this killer piece above by Cathy.  Sold.

BOX11 Roundup 2/2–in the BOX

BOX11 curator reception 024
mixed media – l. t. dougherty

Yes, it has been 5(!) months since the BOX11 Art Show & Sale and you know why this is a perfect time to be talkin’ about it again?  BOX is launching the Encore public open house series where you can check out new work that BOX artists have been cranking out since November.   Check out Encore on Wednesdays, May 2, 9, and 16, 5-7pm in WalterFedy’s amazing space at 675 Queen St. S, Kitchener.  Open to all.  Artists will be around for chatting.

As a warm-up, here are an unreasonable number of photos from BOX11 that show the private Curator’s Reception and the public 2-day show.  If you want to catch up first, check out Part 1/2 that shows the show set up.

1shot #004-bench

Tuesday morning walkabout (301)

I caught this work bench while on a mission in Hespeler.  I *love* work benches.  They really tell a story.  While not an example of wall writing, it really felt like part of my Evidence of Human Life series.  The gouges and drill holes echoed all the making done there.  By hand.

Happy making,
DW

Dave sees world #007

IMG_1499_2-2

Alright, don’t get squeamish on us.  This isn’t some crazy speculum shot of Dave’s eye, though that was the first thing that crossed my mind when he sent over the pics.  This is a photo, taken through the bottom of a drinking glass, of a (totally separate) photo of Dave’s eye displayed on the background of his iMac screen.  Shot with his iPhone 3GS.  Check out the upper right.  See the folder icons now?  Freaky cool, eh?

Dave was working away at the computer, chugged the rest of his water, and as the glass was coming down he caught a glimpse of his screen background, which inspired many more shots through the drinking glass.  And that’s how Dave sees world, yo.

Hurray for improvised lenses and happy making,
DW
