1shot #003–London calling

London 007

In the UK last week for work.  The whole drive-on-the-other-side-of-the-road thing makes me think about how arbitrary some of our conventions are.

Happy making,

Brantford rocks the art talks—Pecha Kucha-style

Glenhyrst Lightning Talks - Brantford 230
Oil on canvas – Ian McLean

Thursday night is Brother Night, and last Thursday, Dave and I rocked on down to Brantford to check out some art lightning talks at Glenhyrst Art Gallery.  Our good friend, Jack Jackowetz, was one of the speakers in this Pecha Kucha event: 20 slides/20 seconds each.

It was a great venue, with great talks by seven artists.  Lots of pics follow.  Thought I’d also give you a peek behind the makebright curtain in this post.  I often get questions about photography/photo editing/blogging, so a little inline meta-makebright for you on this one.

Down in the valley

Point_Edward_Feb_2012 (65)

The Chemical Valley, that is.  While in Point Edward with Dave White visiting my folks, we took a drive down to the south end of Sarnia for some night shots.  I worked in a couple of places down here and always thought the plants were very Blade Runner with the flares and lights and smells.  Sort of post-apocalyptic.  As environmentally-frightening as this is, take a look around you for all the plastic, rubber, paint, gasoline, whatever.  It was very possibly made in a place like this.  We all are the demand.

On a personal note…

IMG-20120217-00156

Met Taylor Jones of Dear Photograph up at CuteGecko two weeks ago.  Very nice guy with an awesomely powerful idea.  Respect!  Looking forward to his TEDxWaterloo talk in March.  That chance meeting got me thinking about the upcoming trip to my hometown of Point Edward with my bro to see my folks.  And that led to this…

Dear Photograph,

Be kinder to your brother: you need each other and 38 years later you will still be best of friends when the others fade away.

Silicon W–Intercosmic Sci Fi Theatre Gallery Event

SiliconW_SciFi_show 105

The awesome Chérie Fawcett is now in the house as Silicon W’s new Gallery Manager.  You may know her from Artery, and it was only later in the evening when I figured out why she looked familiar: she helped out at my 5+5 event and was one of Paul Walker’s room mates.  Chérie’s first show at SW kicked off Thursday night and featured…
