Sam on the cam. Today around the Hub, Communitech PR ninja Samantha Clark was working with…
sometime-model and Communitech’s Director of External Relations, Mr. Chris Plunkett (striking a casual pose above)…
to set up…
a remote-broadcast rig from Waterloo Region’s own Dejero, which is this lunchbox-sized kit that Sam is configuring. This cool tech allows streaming of broadcast-quality captures to be delivered either over mobile networks or hardline internet. No giant truck with telescoping dish antenna required.
For the purposes of Communitech, the goal here is to be able to bring in local experts to speak to breaking current events in near-realtime, and put that feed out to broadcast networks around the world.
Today’s setup was a test run with Business News Network on the receiving end. Good to check white balance, light levels, and audio. Despite, or maybe because of Chris’ game-face here, everything checked out fine.
Imagine, for example, the next breaking-news security issue like Heartbleed comes up, Communitech could engage one of the local firms with security expertise and get one of their staff in front of this camera to do a live-to-air interview with a remote news anchor. And all of that very quickly.
Mega-meta. Me shooting Sam’s screen, shooting camera screen, shooting Area 151… rift in space-time continuum.
So much…
cool…
kit, that it makes me want to do video more.
I don’t know if we call it Communitech TV, but the next time you see a live-hit from the field here in Waterloo Region, it may be shot with this camera…
and piped to the world through this box. Welcome to the future.
