Single Cubic Unit (Green), 2013 – Stephen Lavigne
My brother from the very same mother, David G. White, is showing his paintings at WalterFedy and Friday night was the opening reception of the show Dreamscapes, curated by Chérie Fawcett. This is a strong show with very accessibly-priced work. It runs through December 18.
This piece (above) by Stephen Lavigne made me do a double-take. I was two feet away from it, lovin’ it, thought it was a painting, and when I turned away my brother said it’s constructed of precisely cut green painter’s tape. Mind: blown.

Chérie Fawcett, curator of Dreamscapes, is wrapping up her gig as curator-in-residence with this fourth show at WalterFedy. She’s doing some work at Cambridge Galleries and no doubt has a number of other projects cooking.
Kaitrin Beechey and a print of her work Atlantis
Had a great chat with Kaitrin about the prints of her pen drawings. This photo isn’t doing the work justice; it’s a complex and tiny world she’s constructed. Check out her site for much better images of her work.
Detail of All in a Dream 1, 2013 – David Atkinson
Painter, David Atkinson, is curating a show on Charles Street at Cafe Pyrus, which also features some of my brother’s work. Right across from the bus station. Check it out. Loved the treatment of light in this piece above.
Memoria II, 2013 – Paul Pham
Paul had some very detailed ink drawings out as well.
Single Cubic Unit (Green), 2013 and Triplex, 2013 – Stephen Lavigne
Snacks! (but not yet)
The Destroyer, 2013 – Kat Gomboc
Detail of Hades and Persephone, 2011 – Sam Meiler
Totally loved this trio of pieces from Sam Meiler. This is marker on paper, people! The work!
Dave White reviews his own work Morass, 2013. Thought bubble: “I need to darken that edge right there to push that back and…”
Overseas, 2013 – David G. White
I believe this piece has a new home. And a very good home, indeed. Sold!
Darrin Snider, Director of Business Development at WalterFedy. Always a great host.
Purge, 2013 – Melanie Sarazin
Melanie Sarazin had some great figure rendering and concepts. My fave piece of hers.
Descent, 2013 – Kate Cox
One panel of triptych Confrigeration? (Consider Refrigeration?), 2013 – Susan Qu
Great chat with Susan Qu about her work. These flesh-like chairs were unsettling.
(open) Snacks!
Detail of Morass, 2013 – David G. White
I get to see Dave’s work in progress. This piece changed substantially in its development.
Last snack pic, I promise. Very strong snack showing at this gig.
Dave White in conversation.
Hello, James Nye.
Street Invasion, 2013 – Chris Austin
Toronto shark, I reckon.
There were so…
many cameras at the show that I enlisted…
this crew to help me make the ultimate meta-photographer chain to date on makebright. I’m shooting Chérie, who is shooting Susan, who is shooting James, who is shooting…
View from Pyramid Scape, 2013 – Jessica Firsoff
this cool peep hole piece by Jessica Firsoff. Shooting this with my Z10 produced a much better result than the D3.
Gordon Hatt of CAFKA at right.
Some discussion on Larry Williamson’s big photo printed on aluminum and purchased by WalterFedy last year(?)
Artist, David Atkinson.
I know this guy.
The people that make this happen, (L to R) Susan Qu, Melanie Sarazin, Chérie Fawcett, Paul Pham, Stephen Lavigne, Kaitrin Beechey, Jessica Firsoff, David Atkinson, David G. White, and Kate Cox.
Always inspiring to visit WalterFedy.
DW
Thanks Darin! Was hoping to get there but didn’t make it… So happy you captured it for me (and others of course…)
Jac.
Thank you, Darin. The photos look amazing!
Susan
Yes, a huge thanks as I couldn’t make it. And now I need to see this work. Congratulations to Cherie, the artists and WalterFedy!
Darin, you always do such a great job at capturing an event. Thank you for capturing this one so well. I would also like to thank WalterFedy as well as all of the artists involved in ‘Dreamscapes’, I really enjoyed the evening.
