It was a banner night to see great paintings at The Tannery. Amy Ferrari (her work above: shazam!) and Soheila Esfahani opened a display of their work at The Hub in an Art Allies show sponsored this round by Machteld Faas Xander. Later in the evening I headed up to a reception at Melissa Doherty’s studio on the 4th floor that launches her 2-day open studio show.
My first visit to the Communitech Hub. A really unique space. There’s Brock Hart rockin’ red pants and Tim Jackson on his BlackBerry.
Denise Strong, another amazing local painter was on scene.
Hey hey! My buddy, Jacqui Murphy, the driving force behind Art Allies, came through with some noise-making toys to support my Project Loud Monkey! Thanks Jac! Ping me if you want to Support the Monkey too!
Serious Karl Allen-Muncey of CuteGecko.
Deb Currie caught me on this stealth photograph.
Communitech’s Glenn Smith welcomed the crowd and then…
Jacqui said a few words about Art Allies and introduced the artists, Amy and…
Soheila (centre).
Andrew Jackson of the Accelerator Centre also chipped in a few words and then it was off to the…
work! Ok, I did say paintings, but Soheila’s laser-etched wood sculpture is pretty amazing and showed well here.

Hey! I recognize that fancy food presentation…
Amy Vandenberg of CuteGecko and Beth Cotter chatting it up. And there’s Emily Robson in the background.
Aha! The incomparable Steph Tanner, of Little Mushroom Catering, bustin’ out the…
snacks!
There’s a cool 2nd floor open meeting area that was a good perch.
I love these lights.
I think I shot 30 pictures of this painting by Amy. Just love it.
Lots of these great modular display cubes everywhere. So sweet.

A fragment of Soheila’s awesome work.
The Jazz Room’s Stephen Preece. Gee Stephen, what’s it been? 2 days since we were hanging out together on a piano rebuild shoot? 😉

More of Soheila’s awesome work, and then it was off to the 4th floor for…
some great conversation and great paintings up in Melissa Doherty’s studio, as well as…
a powwow with friends next door to Melissa’s at CuteGecko.
Even Melissa’s business cards are awesome.
You’ll have to come back another time to see these shelved paintings.
Mugging around the food table later in the evening after the…
bartender finished his shift.
Happy making,
DW
