BOX Art Sponsor Appreciation Night on Wednesday at WalterFedy had BOX artists talking…
to the crowd of sponsors about Methods and Mediums. Here, makebright’s own brother Dave White talked about some of the methods behind painting big.
Swati Soni’s paint…
nik harron’s tools.
For 2012, the BOX Art Show & Sale is heading to fabulous Cambridge where it connects with this year’s charity partner Langs Community Health Centre. Bill Davidson, ED of Langs, gave a brief and really great overview of all the good community work that Langs is doing.
I seem to spend a lot of time at this great place.
Mat King and Brennan Bell from Huckleberry Film Studios were on scene with…
the gear…
and Kate Colmer, who was…
ready for her…
(now which one is Huck’s new 14mm rectilinear lens?)
close-up.
Huck was…
talking… (hey, Huck chief Von Darnell and Kurt Wissent)
to the crowd about some of the gear and techniques in film making. Sweet sweet gear.
Snacks!
x 2.
Curator, Suzanne Luke is standing right at the edge of this tectonic plate. Many thanks to Suzanne for letting us pull Dave’s painting off the wall guerrilla-style to support his talk to the sponsors. And double thanks to her for helping us rehang and relevel it afterward. You’re a champ, Suzanne!
Jared Davison, looking on, totally hooked us up for audio, projector, screen, the works. Thanks man!
Great demo, Von and crew.
Larry Williamson was talking about…
printing photographs on aluminum, like this big piece of his (right) that WalterFedy purchased.
nik talked about textured painting.
Always thought of nik’s work as involving such thick application of paint, but lots of thin washes are involved too.
Meta-photography.
Swati…
rocked the floor.
Had a great catch-up chat with my friend Laura Richards (just over Kurt’s head here) who is also one of my fellow BlackBerry People at RIM. Laura is part of the Community Investment Group and part of her work is running RIM’s awesome Proud2Be volunteer support program for charitable and NFP organizations. It’s simple: you work at RIM, you volunteer 25+ hours with a recognized group, RIM donates $500 to that group… every calendar year. This will be the third year that I leverage this great program to amplify my community volunteer efforts with cash-money. Hey, BlackBerry People! BOX would *love* to have you on board as a volunteer, so please reach out to BOX chief, Cathy Farwell, for opportunities to support this kick-ass gem in the creative ecosystem.
Swati showing her technique.
And Dave batted clean-up. Very interesting night.
Happy making,
DW
Another fabulous posting Darin! Love the images.
Thanks a lot, Larry. I really appreciate you taking the time to post a comment.

A great photographer and a great artist. What more would a mother want?
Here’s looking at you, kids!
Thanks Ma!
You captured it Darin! What a great night. The artists made absolutely phenomenal presentations and I learned so much. It was wonderful to see all those people in one space engaged with the five artists, their ‘Methods and Mediums’.
You have such an eye for the ‘main ingredients’ in an event, shared in such a way that we can all taste the flavour. Thanks DW….. again!
